THE rain failed to put a damper on the Caribbean Carnival on Monday (June 3) as thousands turned up for the colourful event.
The annual celebration, now in its 28th year, entertains thousands of people lining the streets around Deepdale and Moor Park, Preston.
Whistles and horns bellowed as people young and old jived to the beat of the musical spectacular. And this year's festival had a special twist -- once the carnival wound its way back through the streets, a huge stage became the centre-piece of the celebration.
The East Side Stage was a new addition to the carnival, and helped commemorate Preston's city status with a rendition of Stevie Wonder's Living in the City and a giant fireworks display as night-time approached.
Ronald Clarke, carnival chairman said: "It rained in the morning, but nobody complained!
"I was expecting people to run for cover and go home to get changed, but the procession participants stood fast.
"There were a lot more people than I expected, there were thousands there. But half-way through the procession the sun just started to shine. By Meadow Street the clouds just parted!"
