A 40-YEAR-OLD man got involved in a pub brawl after his girlfriend was attacked, a court was told.
Burnley Magistrates heard how Kevin Fallows ended up being sprayed with CS gas and was arrested.
Fallows, of Joseph Street, Barrowford, admitted threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and was fined £100, with £55 costs.
The court was told police were called to the Victoria pub on Gisburn Road, Barrowford and were told two men were "punching the hell out of each other."
A large disturbance was taking place and the defendant and another man were fighting.
Both were throwing punches and about a dozen people were trying to stop the melee.
The two men continued battling and shouting incoherently and officers told them to stop. They carried on and the defendant was sprayed with CS gas.
Nadeem Rashid, defending, said the two men's girlfriends had started scuffling. The other man went to intervene and Fallows thought he was going to break it up.
Instead his girlfriend was assaulted, the defendant was hit and he fought back. Matters went from bad to worse.
Mr Rashid said the defendant was not in the habit of fighting and only got involved because of the attack on his partner.
