YOUR article and comment on student buses facing the axe (LET, May 28) struck a chord.
It is not only A-level students living in Darwen who do not have equal access to education because of cost cutting by the council.
My younger son, who has had a bus pass for St Bede's RC High School for three years, this year finds himself ineligible. Though we have not moved house we are now told we are less than three miles from the school. The distance is actually 0.1 of a mile short.
St Bede's is the nearest RC High School, St Thomas Aquinas in Darwen having been closed. I find it grossly unfair that Darwen children and families should be penalised in this way.
It would be interesting to know how much it has cost the council to employ two staff to walk the home-to-school distances using a measuring wheel and how much they are saving at our expense.
