IF you want to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people a unique mentoring scheme is looking for you!

Bolton Lads and Girls Club run the project which recently expanded into Bury. Young people aged from 11 to 21 are matched with a volunteer mentor who works with them on a one to one basis to help them achieve personal goals in their lives.

Andrew Farrell (37) from Lilburn Close, Ramsbottom has been a mentor for nine months.

" I got involved in the project after my wife, Hayley joined," said Andrew, who works as a general manager for a paper mill.

Andrew was matched up with a fifteen year old lad from Bury who he meets on a weekly basis.

" We've been go karting and ten pin bowling as well as going on more unusual activities such as dry skiing at Rossendale and to the mini motorbike track at Radcliffe," he said.

Once a month the Bury mentoring project meet at the Seedfield Centre on Walmersley Road to discuss forthcoming events.

" All too often in life people are critical of teenagers without knowing anything about them," said Andrew.

" I decided I wanted to make a difference to their lives."
