THE FIRST major project undertaken by Oswaldtwistle Area Council has been officially opened to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Jubilee Gardens, in Union Road, have replaced the previous landmark in the spot, a 10ft arch commissioned by Hyndburn Council in the early 1990s, through a £12,000 investment.
As one of Oswaldtwistle Area Council's first major decisions it was decided to demolish the arch and create a town square next to the Co-op. The site includes a hanging basket tree, seating and flower beds.
Coun Peter Britcliffe, chairman of Oswaldtwistle Area Council, said: "People have said it is great improvement and I would appeal to the younger people of the area to respect it."
