APPLYING for early-morning extensions for the World Cup paid off last week as drinkers turned out in force to cheer on England.
Supporters helped landlords across East Lancashire top the record for beer sales - bolstered by Friday afternoon punters.
The boost comes after pubs enjoyed a four-day weekend for the Jubilee.
Eric Grindrod of Mitchells of Lancaster, owners of several pubs in Accrington and Blackburn, said: "I think everyone is just absolutley buzzing from the Jubilee and now the World Cup win has just got everyone on cloud nine.
"Our pubs in East Lancashire have just been crammed with people and business has been booming."
Simon Eyles, marketing manager for Burtonwood Brewery, said: "The combination of double bank holiday, the England-Sweden match and Jubilee celebrations has given rise to a widespread party mood that has had a positive effect on sales for our pubs in Lancashire.
"We're hoping England's success in the World Cup continues as it is great for the country and good business for our licensees."
