RESIDENTS in Hollins are searching for a link with the past to help build a better future for their village.
Members of the Hollins Village Community Association are seeking old photographs, documents, and facts about their neighbourhood.
They hope to draw up a "Village Design Statement" aimed at preserving the area's traditions and building on its finer points.
The plan would contain details of what building types could be considered traditional, with a view to having similar architectural styles replicated in new developments.
The group will also be using the plan to press for more affordable new housing and the preservation of surrounding meadows.
The association has been awarded £2,000 of Kickstart funding from the Whitefield and Unsworth area board for computer equipment and the strategy's compilation.
Association treasurer Trevor Jackson said: "To be successful in looking to the future we want to fully understand the past and know what is appropriate to this area.
"We are hoping to use this plan to improve the area generally, and the amenities within it, for the benefit of everyone."
