ALTHOUGH billed as a solo tour, Kate Rusby was joined by husband John McCusker (ex Battlefield Band) and Andy Cutting in this latest 'Folk Mix' offering at Accrington Town Hall.
The band blended with Kate's hauntingly clear vocals to give a delightful, endearing rendition of traditional folk music.
In a packed programme of songs from her new album Little Lights and previous albums Sleepless and Hourglass, Kate and the band somehow contrived to make songs about death, destruction, lost love and misery endearingly enjoyable.
Kate's infectious yet unaffected Barnsley humour and accent blended well with her husband's Scottish crack and Andy's southern sensitivity, to send one's emotions from despair to ecstasy in moments. A thought-provoking, yet entertaining excellent evening from folk singing's most charismatic self-effacing performer.
