A MAN who died the day after being released from hospital underwent 27 checks before being discharged, an inquest was told.
The inquiry at Burnley Magistrates Court heard how epileptic Anthony Jenkins, 56, of Crawshaw Hall Nursing Home, Burnley Road, Rossendale, was admitted to Burnley General on April 9.
He had cuts to the back of his head and injuries to limbs after a fall caused by his condition.
Doctors carried out 27 checks in the Accident and Emergency department.
Mr KS Ranjit, senior doctor in the department, sent Mr Jenkins home and told him to report back to hospital if his condition deteriorated.
Mr Ranjit said that Mr Jenkins understood his questions and his tetanus status was satisfactory.
He added that despite Mr Jenkins not eating and drinking properly there were no signs of anaemia.
The court heard on April 10 Mr Jenkins was readmitted to Burnley General and then transferred to Preston Royal Infirmary where he died.
Acting coroner for East Lancashire Richard Taylor said: "Concerns will always be expressed when someone is admitted to hospital and has come back the following day and then died.
"I am satisfied that all that could have been done was done for Mr Jenkins. The correct treatment was given to him."
"It is sad that unfortunately the injuries were caused by the falls which he suffered."
Mr Taylor recorded a verdict of accidental death.
