A TERRIFIED woman today revealed how three windows of her home were shot and smashed as the family slept in the latest in a spate of attacks.
Kathleen Haigh, 46, of Eagle Street, Nelson, said she had no idea who was responsible nor why the family, including her husband Robert and 17-year-old son Vincent, were being targeted.
She said she no longer feels safe in her home after the windows were damaged with what police believe was an air rifle.
Bricks have been thrown through windows at the house in the past.
Kathleen, who has suffered from two nervous breakdowns and currently has angina attacks, said: "It is terrifying.
"The windows have been shot out in the early hours of the morning.
"I am very scared. When it is your own home you cannot hide anywhere else, we can't just get up and move. We have been here 18 years and when we first came here it was a nice street.
"But it has got really rough now.
"I am upset about it. I don't know why they are are doing it and I don't know who is doing it.
"My youngest son Vincent is frightened.
"It started four weeks ago when a brick was thrown at a downstairs window but it did not smash.
"That is why they have started with an air rifle."
Inspector Paul Robinson of Nelson Police said: "Investigations are continuing to try and find out who is doing this damage to the Haigh's home address.
"It is our own view that there are people in the vicinity that know more about this than the information they are providing currently.
"We do feel for the family who must be feeling distressed."
Inspector Robinson urged anyone who has any information about the attacks to contact Crimetoppers confidentially on 0800 555 111.
