JORDAN Leather has donated his raffle prize to raise money to help his sick grandfather.

Jordan, nine, a Mesnelea Primary School pupil, was over-the-moon when he won the star prize in a Christmas raffle -- a four foot tall Winnie The Pooh bear.

When he heard that his gran, Marion Leather, was donating a giant rabbit she had also won in a raffle to raise money for Cancer Research, he immediately offered his prize to help.

Jordan's grandfather, Harold had been seriously ill with cancer for some time and was being treated at Christie's. When Marion offered the toys to the hospital she was put in touch with Roy Lilly -- Christie's fund-raising representative for the area.

Sponsored diet

Roy, who has himself raised £10,000 for the charity through a long-term sponsored diet in which he famously lost eight stone, collected the teddies and decided to raffle them among shops, family and friends in Tyldesley and Atherton.

The first raffle, of the rabbit, took place at Easter and raised £100. The second, the Winnie The Pooh, was carried out a few week's later and raised £140 for the charity.

Marion said: "When Jordan heard what I was doing with my rabbit he asked whether Christie's would like his bear as well. I told him they would, as every little helps. It was such a lovely offer.

"Our family has always been very involved in fund-raising for cancer research. Jordan's father, Derek, has done lots of Manchester to Blackpool bike-rides for the charity."

Unfortunately Mr Leather died before the raffles were carried out, but the family plan to continue fund-raising for the cause that it is so close to their hearts.
