CHURCH went bottom of the Transco Lancashire League on Saturday after they were beaten by leaders Bacup and bottom club Accrington won at Burnley.

Accrington moved off the bottom of the table for the first time this season.

Burnley's Ben Law - who also hit 50 yesterday at home to Norden in the Inter-League Trophy - hit 51 which included three fours and two sixes.

And the professional Pierre Joubert made 55 with five fours and one six to set the visitors a target of 151.

Undaunted, even by the early dismissal of Mohsin Ahmed for four, Accrington set about clocking up the runs with professsional Andre Seymore and Tariq Hussain putting on a second wicket stand of 116, Hussain hitting his unbeaten 70 off 69 balls, with seven fours and three sixes.

Rishton professional Paul Adams took five wickets as his side beat Colne.

Rishton had reached 141 with Peter Sleep hitting 49 and Russell Whalley chipping in with 29. Nick Moulding took three wickets for the loss of just 28 runs.

Colne's substitute professional Tushar Arothe hit 20, Jeff Ellis 30 and Gary Hunt 24, in the home side's innings but stingy Rishton bowling meant they needed 12 off the last over to win. Dave Swarbrick hit a six but was stumped by Adams off the last ball.

Bacup sent Church to the bottom of the table with a five-wicket win. Bacup bowlers David Ormerod and Shaun Young were in control, bowling 20 overs each and taking 4-68 and 3-69 respectively as the home side made 140-7.

Mark Higgs hit an unbeaten 56 and Nick Westwell made an unbeaten 23.

But half centuries from openers Peter Thompson (53 not out) and Dominic Ayres (50) saw the champions to victory.
