A REGIMENT of Bury school children will be gaining an unique insight into life in the Army at the country's largest ever outdoor careers exhibition.

More than 250 pupils from St Gabriel's High, Bury Church and Bury Grammar will be among 12,000 youngsters from the North of England who will attend the three day event which starts on Tuesday at Marne Barracks in Catterick, North Yorkshire.

The exhibition will provide 13 to 16-year olds with a fun, enjoyable and informative look into the careers, lifestyle and travel opportunities available to those who enlist in Britain's army.

Around 140 trades, from drivers, mechanics and engineers to cooks, medics and musicians, are on offer to army recruits. The Bury contingents will be able to find out more about these through speaking to the soldiers themselves and taking part in a host of activities throughout the three days.

Opportunities at the event include joining the army for 30 minutes, taking part in an assault course and battling it out in the laser dome.

Displays of different military skills will be given by the 4 Para free fall parachute display team, the Gurkha Company's Tae Wan Do team, and the Royal Signals' motorcycle display team.
