RONALDO continued to fulfill his promise of scoring in every match in the 2002 World Cup and Rivaldo kept matching his teammate.
The talented tandem each scored a goal as Brazil advanced to the quarter-finals in a 2-0 victory over an impressive Belgium side.
Although Brazil had to work hard for the win, the result sets up a classic final eight matchup with England on Friday at Shizuoka.
Ronaldo notched his fifth goal in four games with three minutes to play. Substitute Kleberson ran down the right side on a quick attack and sent the ball right in front of Ronaldo. The Inter Milan striker directed it past goalkeeper Geert De Vlieger, who got his leg on the ball before rolling into the back of the net.
Rivaldo's goal showed his crafty individual skill in the 67th minute. The 30-year-old midfield maestro chested an accurate pass by Ronaldinho. He proceded to control with one bounce on his left foot before turning and smacking it on net without looking.
Ronaldo and Rivaldo have scored nine of Brazil's 13 goals between them.
Belgium made a valiant effort, missing several scoring chances and had a goal by captain Marc Wilmots disallowed in the first half.
Wilmots beat Roque Junior to a header and put it in the back of the net, but Jamaican referee Peter Prendergast judged the Belgian had nudged the defender to get an edge on the jump.
Belgium's Mbo Mpenza nearly scored the tournament's fastest goal when he caught goalkeeper Marcos slightly out of position with a chip of the ball after just 35 seconds. Marcos managed to get a hand on the ball and tip it to safety.
In the second half Belgium courageously took the game to Brazil and Wilmots almost scored again after seven minutes. The veteran skipper got the ball at the edge of the box, turned aroung and let loose with a shot that Marcos stretched to save.
Wilmots came close 10 minutes later. Mpenza got behind the defense and hit Wilmots with a pass on the verge of the penalty area. Wilmots turned a defender before flicking to the far post which forced Marcos for another great save.
Bart Goor wasted two opportunities later. Goor could not get his head on a bouncing ball sent in front of the goal. And in the last minute, he tried to push the ball toward the net instead of kicking after beating the offside trap.
