MORE students at a Leigh school have been given a taste of democracy.
Westleigh High School has set up Year Councils to complement the successful school council, and this week the Year 8 panel was deciding the menu for the new dining room.
Members met Geoff Long, general manager of Metro Catering, to sample foods and decide what should be served each day.
By August the year councils will also be redesigning the students' planner, remodelling part of the schoolyard to create a garden area, and deciding on the type of prizes and rewards given to students.
Headteacher Mr John Pout said: "It is vital that more of our students are involved in decision making. The more we listen to them the more they can actively help the school get even better.
"With the new canteen I want to ensure three things, firstly that the students have a healthy diet, secondly that more stay in school to eat, and finally more can eat in school without having to queue for a long time."
