THE inaugural meeting of The Friends of Barrowford Park will take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 7pm at the Bull Holme Pavilion.
Barrowford Park dates back to the 1920s and was conceived by two local cotton manufacturers, John Dixon and Sam Holden, who wanted to create a park and recreation ground for the people of Barrowford.
They gave the land for the park and the people of Barrowford raised the funds for the recreation ground. In more recent years, it has been home to the Barrowford Show.
The meeting will discuss issues such as how often The Friends will meet, what the current priorities are for the park and the creation of a proper constituted body.
Fred Stewart, the council's parks outreach officer, said: "It is vitally important that local people are involved in the management of the public parks in Pendle.
"We are delighted that people have expressed an interest in being a Friend of the Park and look forward to a productive partnership between the group and the council's parks, cemeteries and outdoor recreation department."
