HIGH-visibility police patrols will be on duty around Darwen town centre when England play Brazil in their World Cup quarter-final on Friday.
Sgt Neil Wilkinson said they wanted to avoid a repeat of the minor disturbances after England beat Denmark 3-0 last Saturday.
Then police were forced to empty the Millstone pub in the Circus and were kept busy with other incidents around the town.
Sgt Wilkinson said: "We had several incidents of fighting in the town.
"If we win everyone will be happy and there will be problems later because of the drink.
"If we lose there could be problems straight away at around 9am.
"The majority of people will be well-behaved and our message would be enjoy the football in good spirits rather than being aggressive."
