TWO people had a lucky escape when a lorry jack-knifed and hit their car on the Haslingden bypass.

Commuters faced a 10-mile tail-back on the northbound route following the accident at Rising Bridge at 5.15pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said emergency services were initially called out to reports of a serious crash after the lorry had jack-knifed, but found the car driver and passenger had suffered only minor injuries. They were taken to Burnley General Hospital.

The road was closed for an hour.
