A MAN sentenced to life imprisonment last week for a knife attack has appeared before Blackburn magistrates for sentence on offences of assault.
Munier Hussain received the mandatory life sentence because of a previous offence of wounding and the magistrates were asked to take a pragmatic view when sentencing him for assault causing actual bodily harm and common assault.
Bashart Ditta, defending, said a psychiatric report produced to the Crown court had said Hussain was not a danger but a person but one more likely to use violence than others.
"He is going to have time to reflect on that," said Mr Ditta.
Hussain, 31, of Kempton Rise, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to the assault charges and one of causing criminal damage and was sentenced to 90 days in prison.
Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, Hussain had punched a man as he sat in his car at temporary traffic lights on Audley Range. When the man in the vehicle behind intervened he was punched to the floor and Hussain eventually had to be pulled off him.
A number of motoring allegations were withdrawn.
