MEMBERS of a Muslim Girls group were awarded their first Aid certificates at Nelson and Colne College.
The voluntary group has been running for two years and aims to encourage Muslim students at the college to get involved in a variety of activities. The group is run with the support of the parents.
Shaheen Shafiq who helps run the group explained, "We hope the group can equip the girls so that they can make their own decisions when they leave college and make them proud of their identity.
"We've had a number of talks, visits to universities and looking to visit the police so that they can see the different types of careers on offer to them."
The group has also run self-defence courses. Anyone interested in joining the group or finding out more can call 01282 440229 or 01282 440292.
