STUDENTS from Bolton who stay on after completing their GCSE exams could get paid for moving up to further education.
Bolton has been chosen to take part in a Government pilot scheme under which parents of eligible students between the ages of 16 and 19 can receive up to £30 a week in term time. And if the student successfully completes their course they can pick up a bonus of up to £200.
The aim is to encourage more young people to stay on and study for further qualifications that could take them on to a university degree course.
The Education Maintenance Allowance is aimed at families whose gross income is below £30,000 per annum and who would otherwise find it a financial struggle to allow young people to stay on in education.
Application forms are now available through schools, or people wanting more details can contact one of the Education Department EMA team on 01204.332142/3/6/7 or 332099.
