FRIENDS of Gujarat held a meeting in Bolton highlighting the carnage in the state of Gujarat that continues to take place in the region.

Over a 1000 people attended the highly emotive gathering organised by group Friends of Gujarat.

The meeting which was held in Bolton aimed to highlight the continuing sate of violence in the province of Gujarat in India.

Issues raised included reports of how how over 4,500 have been massacered in the region and how 250,000 people have been displaced to refugee camps.

There were calls for more pressure and sanctions against the Indian Government from Britain and a guarantee for Muslims living in there.

Speakers included Dr Brian Iddon MP, David Crausby MP, Gary Titley MEP, Lord Patel of Blackburn, Yousouf Bhailok, Muslim Council of Britain and Ibrahim Master of the Lancashire of Mosques.

All who attended felt a real urgent need to resolve the current issue to avoid a global catastrophe from developing in the region from Hindu fundamentalists

Friends of gujarat was created 10 years ago in the wake of the Babri mosque massacres.
