DANIEL Berry is "doing well" following a vital bone marrow transplant last month.
The 17-year-old is back at his Crosby Grove home in Atherton with parents Gary and Elaine and brother Mark.
Elaine said: "He's still very fatigued after the operation, but is doing well. Doctors have said there is no definite point when we can say he is safe, as anything can happen. The first 100 days are crucial and we're just keeping our fingers crossed for the time being."
Unfortunately Daniel has had to cancel holiday plans he had for August, he hoped to go to Faliraki with friends, but is still weak after so much chemotherapy and cannot be in the sun.
Elaine said: "It's a shame he can't go, especially since all his friends are going. Having that to look forward to did wonders for him psychologically, but now he needs to put all his efforts into getting better. Hopefully he will start taking driving lessons later in the summer, which will give him something else to focus on."
Daniel's family and friends are intent on continuing their hugely successful fund-raising campaign in order to help others who are suffering from the life-threatening disease.
Fantastic
"The community has been fantastic. Everyone has rallied round for Daniel, they are always asking after him and wanting to know when the next event is."
Until they know for certain that Daniel is safe the Berrys will keep the £60,000 raised so far in a trust fund, but anything collected from now on will be used to benefit people in a similar situation.
"We know how hard it is and that every little helps. People need support to help relieve some the stress."
