CLARETS boss Stan Ternent is as excited as anyone about the prospect of England taking on Brazil and he claimed: "I'm sure England can win it".

"They have done very well so far and this will be a really good game for them. It will be very difficult and the way this World Cup has gone it is almost impossible to predict.

"What I know is that when it gets to the knock-out stage everything has got to be right on the day. Also you need to get that little bit of luck."

Ternent has been following England's progress with interest and he believes that they have what it takes to keep out the stars from Brazil.

"They are obviously a brilliant attacking side but I think that the England defence has been the best in the tournament," he said.

"They now have the chance to show it because they will be playing against the best forwards in the competition.

"It looks as though defensively Brazil are not quite as good and they have a lot of forward going players so it should be a really exciting game.

"The prize is great for both teams because they know that if they can win their next three games they will have won the World Cup.

"I think if England can beat Brazil, they will win it."

Mind you, like many people Ternent has been wide of the mark as the most surprising World Cup tournament in history has seen so many fancied sides flying home far sooner than anyone expected.

"Before the tournament my predicted semi-finalists were France, Argentina, Italy and Spain and there is only one of those left," he admitted.

"But I think it has been very good for football to see some shock results and other countries doing well.

"I did say that there are no easy games at this level and that has been shown.

"All the teams are well organised now, they can play well and they have great fitness levels.

"I just hope that when it all ends on June 30 it will be England who are the champions."
