A PRESTON lass with a flair for fashion has just shown her glad rags to a packed crowd in London as part of The Prince's Trust Graduate Fashion Week 2002.
Janine Bolton, 25, of Ennerdale Road, Longridge, near Preston has completed a three year degree course in fashion at the University of Central Lancashire.
Her final show, despite setting her back around £2,000, was chosen from the graduate exhibitions to represent the University at the Prince's Trust Graduate Fashion Week -- where the next Vivienne Westwoods and Paul Smiths are discovered.
"I was thrilled to go it was very exciting and a great opportunity, I was given an award by Jeff Banks, but unfortunately I didn't win the prize -- which was to work for designer Alexander McQueen.
"I think that there is some snobbery towards students from the north and London students seem to get more of a look in, but I'm very ambitious."
Janine has applied for a job designing sportswear in Dubai and also hopes to win a scholarship to China where she would be able to design a collection inspired by the country.
"That would be amazing and I like the idea of travel, if I stay in England I'd like to work for a fashion forecasting agency. I did a year in industry for my degree at a place called the Bureau in London which predicts future fashions and trends," said Janine.
Janine could be designing the shirt on your back in the next year -- although her designs are, she admits, a little unusual.
A former student of Cardinal Newman College, Janine studied 'A' levels in Art and Sculpture, English and Sociology.
"I like the mixture of sculpture and fashion, my collection was designed with Japanese designer Issey Miyake in mind, he uses pleats a lot. I wanted to make people think about things in a different way," said Janine.
