WINE bar and restaurant plans for Tyldesley town centre have been put on hold.
Planners turned down a scheme to convert shops at 17-21 Stanley Street after receiving two letters and a 50 name petition signed by objectors.
Cllr Mark Aldred said: "I find it hard to believe we can justify another late night bar/restaurant within an elderly residential area."
Another application for permission to convert an empty shop at 118 Elliott Street into a wine bar has been deferred at the applicant's request.
