POLICE have a new lead in the search for the killer of Culcheth pensioner Harry Upton.

Mr Upton, 75, was found with massive head injuries after he is thought to have disturbed an intruder at his sheltered accomodation bungalow.

He managed to raise the alarm but died from his injuries in Warrington General Hospital a few days later.

After an appeal for a man seen in the area to come forward, police have now eliminated him from their enquiries.

But detectives are still trying to trace a grey and black car seen in the area on the night Mr Upton was attacked. The car is distinctive in that three wheel trims were missing. The driver is described as 'stocky'.
