A BARRIER has been put up to keep motorcycles off an Atherton path.
Riders had been illegally tearing through the town's Valley region which has a public right of way running through it.
Cllr Mark Aldred called for restrictions after noting the concerns of locals.
He said: " I was very concerned that young people on un-roadworthy motorcycles were gaining access to a footpath.
"Pedestrians were taking their life in their hands when they were out for a leisurely stroll. A good number of children play in the Valley and they would not be expecting a motorcycle to speed along the path, it was an accident waiting to happen."
Cllr Aldred said further barriers could be installed down The Valley.
