TWO Leigh men remain at the top of the powerful Greater Manchester Police Authority.
Hindley Green Councillor Stephen Murphy and businessman Norman Latham have been re-elected chairman and vice chairman of the 19 member authority, which oversees a budget of more than £400m and a force of over 7,000 officers and 3,500 support staff.
Cllr Murphy, who received 14 of 17 votes, said: "I am delighted to carry on the work on behalf of the people of Greater Manchester.
"We have a big job to do with the major development of our police stations over the next few years and the introduction of the new digital radio system for the police service."
Mr Latham, an independent member of the authority, which is made up of 10 councillors representing each district of Greater Manchester, six independents and three magistrates, said: "I am delighted to continue as vice chairman and look forward to helping to deliver the best policing environment available."
