STUART Hide has died only weeks after retiring as chairman of the Public Voice on Policing (PVP) group.
The respected 67-year-old from Lowton died in Wigan Infirmary last Thursday after suffering a third heart attack.
Following doctors' advice and pressure from his three children, Anne, Barry and Jill and eight grand-children, Mr Hide retired from the PVP -- formerly the Police Community Liaison Group -- last month, having represented Golborne and District Sports Club on the panel since it began as a pilot scheme in 1982.
Mr Hide, of Maple Crescent, owned a rubber stamp company in Leigh until he sold it three years ago, following his first heart attack.
A former football referee, he chaired numerous community groups including the Civic Trust and Leigh Referee's Association, with his highest accolade being past president of the Lancashire Referee's Association.
Mr Hide's funeral took place on Wednesday at St Luke's Church in Lowton and at Wigan Crematorium.
