THE countryside is coming to town next month!

Bury and District Agricultural Society has received the green light to celebrate its diamond show in spectacular style after it was cancelled last year because of the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Alan Booth, chairman of the society, said: "Although there are still foot-and-mouth restrictions in place and we will still have to cancel the cattle show, we are determined to put on a big show for the people of Bury."

Last year's cancellation was the first time Bury and District Agricultural Society had been forced to call off the annual event since the Second World War.

Attractions at this year's major fund-raising event include a vintage car show, horse show, bird displays featuring owls and eagles; farmers' market, beekeepers, fly fishing, Bacup Coconut Dancers and Tottington Public Band. There will also be a pet show so visitors are invited to bring their dogs.

In line with tradition, competitors will also be lining up to show off their wares in the arts and crafts exhibition and horticultural show.

Judging for all classes will start in the morning and go on through out the day.

Mr Booth said: "We hope that the people will come out and support us on the day. It really is a great show and a fund-raising event."

The show will be held on the Burrs Country Park showground on Sunday, July 21 at 10am.
