Ronaldinho, later to be sent off, fired Brazil's winner with a free-kick from outside the area straight after the re-start.

The ball floated over the stranded Seaman in goal with most of the players, and the watching millions, expecting the ball to be centred.

Ronaldinho was sensationally sent off in the 57th minute following an over-the-top tackle on Danny Mills.

Mexican referee Felipe Ramos Rizo, who sent France's Thierry Henry off in a Group A match, had no hesitation in showing the red card.

Rizo also sent off Paraguay's Carlos Paredes and Nastja Ceh of Slovenia in the only other match he has taken at the tournament.

Michael Owen shot England into the lead after 23 minutes against Brazil, but Rivaldo scored a stunning equaliser with his fifth goal of the tournament in first-half injury time.
