CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a Wetherspoons pub in the Palatine buildings along Blackpool's Central Promenade area have once again come to a halt.
Following Blackpool magistrates original refusal, Tim Martin, owner of the London-based Wetherspoons chain, appealed against the decision at Preston Crown Court.
During the proceedings the judge upheld Blackpool Magistrates original decision as Wetherspoons withdrew their appeal because of a legal problem.
A spokesman for Blackpool Town Centre Licensee Forum Joe Curran was delighted with the decisionl He said: "We opposed it because it is a discount pub that is open seven days a week, which could mean that people could be leaving the pub in an intoxicated state in a family and children orientated area which isn't acceptable.
"I hope this message goes out as a warning shot that PLCs and other companies can't just wander into Blackpool and open a business."
A spokesperson for Wetherspoons said: "We are currently involved in the process of making a fresh application to submit before Blackpool Magistrates in August."
