ATHERTON'S incredible post-professional success continued with a three-wicket triumph over Darcy Lever writes Chris Hall
The club, without a pro since they dismissed Greg Dimery for disciplinary reasons earlier this season, are now unbeaten in three matches. And their latest victory was even more remarkable as all of their first 11 were home grown players who have emerged through the club's impressive youth set-up.
Lever looked on course for victory when Nick Fawcett's 92 and a 31 from Jonathan Norris powered the visitors to a total of 197-6. David Charlson, 3-45, and Ian Nuttall, 3-72, shared the wickets.
But Charlson added to his wicket haul by hitting 40 runs in Atherton's reply and, with 37s from both Paul McLoughlin and Phillip Wakefield, the target was comfortably surpassed, despite Damian Gavin taking 3-57.
Atherton have had discussions with four prospective replacements for Dimery but are still no closer to having another professional in their ranks. At this rate, they will not need one!
