Andy Taylor helped Horwich bounce back from last week's disappointing defeat by title rivals Walkden to crush neighbours Westhoughton on Saturday writes David Magilton
Taylor grabbed five wickets from just five overs to skittle out Westhoughton for 127, the third successive game the left arm spinner has finished with a five wicket haul. Only Alan Gaskell with 41 showed any resistance for the visitors.
Earlier Horwich made 179-7 with Jon Partington 78 and David White 34. Mike Crookson took 4-46.
Champions Walkden continued their search for another title with a quick demolition of Little Lever. Professional Doug Watson reached an unbeaten century in the final over as Walkden made 198-7 and in reply Little Lever were all out for 96 with Sri Lankan professional DeSilva 58. Dave Smith took three wickets in just 10 balls and brother John 3-37.
Astley Bridge made it three wins on the trot with a comfortable seven wicket win over Farnworth Social Circle. The home side was dismissed for 116 despite an unbeaten 59 from Richard Hope who carried his bat. William Halton and Tim Barry each took three wickets. In reply an unbeaten 63 from professional Jadhav made victory a formality.
Farnworth remain the only team without a win but were encouraged by an improved performance at Heaton.
Student Matthew McGuinesss, back from university, took 6-44 as Heaton were bowled out for 157 with Gareth Carson 50 and Farouk Neki 30. In reply Farnworth could only muster 138 despite 72 from Gary Mather. Hirwani did the damage and took 7-39.
Egerton's disappointing season continued with a nine wicket defeat by title chasing Tonge.
Mahmood hit 56 as Egerton struggled to 132-9, but in reply Tonge coasted home thanks to 51 from Nisar and Richard Northrop's 68.
Bradshaw professional Amal Dalugoda claimed 7-53 as Eagley crashed to an eight wicket defeat at derby rivals Bradshaw. Steve Woods hit 34 but Eagley were all-out for 121 and in reply Andrew Kerr's 70 ensured a comfortable win.
