A YOUNG mother today spoke of the terrifying moment when a man tried to drag her into a car as she walked home from work.
And Sharon Green criticised police after they failed to visit her until 10.30am the following day.
Sharon, 28, from Feniscowles was attacked in Livesey Branch Road by a man who grabbed her England football shirt and tried to pull her through his car window.
She thought he had stopped to ask for directions but he sped off after she had punched him on the nose.
She called Blackburn police and they gave the Spar employee an incident number but failed to visit the victim that night.
Today, Inspector Stuart Bruce of Blackburn Police said resources were "best concentrated on tracking the potential offender " after the incident, at 9.45pm on Friday.
Police officers immediately went to look for witnesses and vehicles in the area, he said.
Mum-of-two Mrs Green's hand started to swell up and an X-ray revealed it was not broken but badly bruised.
The man is described as white, under 6ft tall, aged between 38 and 42-years-old and slim.
He wore a green and dark coloured T-shirt and he drove a blue Renault Megane.
Mrs Green said: "No-one from the police called on Friday night, even though I definitely told them that he pulled my shirt and tried to get me into his car. I'm really disappointed. I had to relive it all again when they came round the next day."
Mrs Green was walking home from the Spar on Preston Old Road, where she works, when the man drove up beside her and spoke to her.
She added: "He asked if I had any children and if they would want a drive in his car. Before I could think he quickly grabbed my shirt and tried to pull me into the car. I punched him on the nose and fell back as he sped off.
"I picked myself up and made the five-minute walk home. It seemed like an hour. When I got in I told my husband, Stuart. He was absolutely furious."
Police officers visited Mrs Green on Saturday and took the T-shirt away for forensic testing.
They also carried out inquiries in Livesey Branch Road to see if anything had been picked up on CCTV.
Inspector Bruce said: "Police carried out observations in the area and invested their time in finding the car after the incident.
"The follow up and information to Mrs Green was possibly not as quick as we would have liked
"But the witnesses that were located on the evening were interviewed yesterday and are helping us with the investigation.
"Unfortunately in this case. information on the action being taken was not relayed as accurately as we would have like to Mrs Green.
"She was not clear that we had reacted immediately in response to the incident."
"Someone attempting to drag a woman into a car is treated with the utmost seriousness."
