POLICE have named the victims of two fatal Fylde Coast road crashes which happened within two hours of each other on Sunday morning (June 23).

Driver David Rumming, of Garrick Grove, Layton was pronounced dead at the scene after his Volkswagen Golf ploughed off Singleton Lane, Weeton, through the fence of the nearby Army barracks, and collided with a tree at around 12.50am.

Passenger Jamie Tonner, 23, of St Heliers Road, South Shore, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment.

A Lancashire Police spokesman appealed for help in piecing together what happened. "If anyone has witnessed the collision or indeed the activities of a VW Golf GTI motor car in the Weeton area immediately prior to the collision could they contact PC Mick Horton at Blackpool Police." Callers should quote reference number 21WQ/23.

The second collision, between a Ford Orion car and a newly built traffic island and signpost, happened shortly after 2am around 50 metres from the junction of Poulton Road and Delaware Road, Layton.

Police said the driver, Simon Ostle, 28, of Westminster Road, Morecambe suffered multiple injuries after the head-on collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A front seat passenger, 26-year-old James McGuire of Hardlands Avenue, Torrisholme, sustained chest injuries and was also taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "The vehicle appears to have collided with a concrete traffic light island which had been newly established in the centre of the carriageway on Poulton Road."

He said the car then apparently veered towards the kerb and collided head-on with a primary route signpost.

And he appealed for anyone who was in the vicinity of Poulton Road, close to Delaware Road, at 2am on Sunday morning to contact Blackpool Police on 293933.
