POLICE today released photographs of 10 people they want to trace in connection with a World Cup street fight in Burnley.

The 10 were caught on camera by the town centre's CCTV system, following the England's opening match against Sweden on Sunday, June 2.

The fight broke out between two gangs of youths at the junction of Manchester Road and St James Street at approximately 5.15pm, following the draw in the group matches of the opening round of the competition in Japan.

One man received a serious head injury in the fight and the two gangs were quickly dispersed by the police.

Officers are now hoping to receive information about any of the 10 youths captured on camera.

The street fight was the second of two disorder incidents following the match.

It occured just 15 minutes after a group of about 40 youths attacked a number of taxis in Croft Street, allegedly shouting racist chants.

The first incident lasted only a couple of minutes, but several taxis were damaged and two drivers assaulted.

Twelve people have now been arrested in connection with that incident after photographs appeared in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Police inquiries are still continuing.

Anyone who recognises any of the people pictured or have any information should contact either Crimestoppers, anonymously and in confidence, on 0800 555 111, or Burnley CID on 01282 472240.
