A BUSINESSMAN injured a woman and her daughter when he ploughed into the back of their car while making a call on his mobile phone, a court was told.

Martin Boden, 29, of Montgomery Close, Baxenden, was not present at court. He pleaded guilty by letter to driving without care and attention. Boden was fined £300 with £30 costs and had six penalty points put on his licence by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor Suzanne Sanders said on February 8 at 8.30am, Boden was driving his Audi along Garstang Road at Singleton.

"He was using his mobile phone while driving and failed to notice that a Fiat had stopped at a junction to turn right.

"He collided with the rear of he Fiat. The car's female driver and her daughter who was a passenger were both injured and both vehicles were damaged."

In his letter Boden said: "I was not actually using my phone at the time of the collision. I did make a call to a work colleague over some urgent business. I accept what I did was wrong."

He said he spent a lot of time driving during the course of his work and realised the dangers of using mobiles while at the wheel.
