IT was interesting to read that planners recommended the closure of 'congested' Church Street to improve the attraction of the town to traders. I wonder, however, if the people who wrote the report were referring to the top end of Church Street/Astley Gate that tended to be seized up.
Could it be that our planners misread the report and, by mistake, have closed the only part of Church Street that never caused problems for pedestrians or motorists?
Now that Railway Road has become a major traffic nightmare, how soon will it be before this road is suggested for pedestrianisation? Possibly, future reports will also recommend the closure of Darwen Street and Mincing Lane or the ultimate traffic solution, the building of barriers on all roads leading into the town.
