MARY and Nathaniel Matchett celebrated their Diamond Wedding in their Leigh home where she has always lived.
The pair, thought to be the oldest married couple living in Bonnywell Road, celebrated 60 years of marriage last Thursday with a family buffet.
The couple met in wartime when Mary (nee Wagstaff), then 24 and Nathaniel, 28, worked at Risley making ammunition. They married within the year at Bedford St Thomas' Church.
With their three daughters, five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, family plays a huge part in the couple's life.
Now aged 84 and 88, Mary and Nathaniel find it difficult to do all the things they used to enjoy, such as dancing, playing bingo and going on holiday. But they had no trouble enjoying a big party with friends, family and neighbours at the Pennington Hotel.
