TEACHERS will be asked to practise what they preach at a special literary seminar on Saturday.
They will be urged to delve into their imaginations to create their own poetry, prose and drama, under the expert guidance of three professional writers.
The event is part of the National Literacy Strategies, and the hope is that whatever teachers learn will be passed on to pupils. Those interested in producing scripts will benefit from the experience of Andrew Davies, best known for his work on Pride and Prejudice, and the screenplay for Bridget Jones' Diary.
The poets will be in the safe hands of Graham Mort, published poet, journalist and trainer, while teachers wishing to release the novelist within will be working with Bob Bibby, a detective fiction writer and ex-chairman of NATE.
After the "Sparking Creativity" day, teachers will be able to relax as they listen to Berlie Doherty give an after-dinner speech about her work as a children's author.
The event is held at the Village Hotel in Bury, where local teachers will be joined by their counterparts from Rochdale, Bolton and Blackburn with Darwen.
