TELEVISION star Lisa Riley went back to her old school this week to enjoy a little summer fun.

The former soap actress and now presenter of ITV's You've Been Framed was the guest of honour at Holly Mount RC Primary School in Greenmount where she was invited to launch the Holly Mount Field Appeal to improve the land for pupils and local community.

Problems with drainage leaves the school playing fields regularly waterlogged.

Chairman of the Parent Teachers' Association, Emma Palmer, said: "Lisa announced that just under £6,000 has already been pledged to phase one of the project.

"Once completed, this first phase of the project should make massive improvements to the drainage, giving the pupils and local community a much more useable playing field."

She added: "Blessed with sunshine, the fair was a huge success, with the best turnout ever. Many children entered the fancy dress competition hoping to impress Lisa, who was the judge.

"The PTA would like to extend a big thank-you to Lisa and all who helped and supported the fair. It was a very successful fund-raiser, but more importantly a fun day for all."

The school is applying for a number of grants to help fund the field project, but donations are desperately needed to hit the cash target.

Businesses or individuals who would like to contribute to the project should ring the school on 01204 88 2770.
