POLICE are appealing for information after a plucky pensioner suffered a suspected broken wrist in a robbery in Bury.
The 75-year-old woman was injured as she attempted to hold on to her handbag during a street robbery.
Now, officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident which happened at 3.45pm on Wednesday (July 26) to come forward.
The pensioner was walking along Ormrod Street towards Pimhole Road when the thief ran up from behind and grabbed her handbag.
She tried to hold on to the bag, but was pulled to the ground and suffered cuts and bruises to both knees, a graze to her chin and a possible fractured wrist. The offender then ran off with the bag, which contained the pensioner's purse, keys and bus pass.
PC Abdul Kahar, who is dealing with the incident, said: "The victim has been left extremely shaken in what was a very cowardly robbery. It is fortunate that she wasn't more seriously hurt.
"Just after the robbery the victim was helped by a man and a young girl, who may have been his daughter. But they left without giving their details.
""They may have seen the robber and I would ask them to contact the police as they may be able to identify him."
The thief is described as around 5ft 10ins tall and possibly in his teens.
Anyone with information about the incident, or the man and young girl who helped the victim, are asked to contact Bury police on (0161) 856 8126 or call CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
