RADCLIFFE Athletic Club were at the Blackpool half marathon last Sunday, enjoying another successful day out.
A total of 747 runners finished the 13.1 mile course and there was Adrian Harris, fifth overall, first over 45, just one over-40s runner in front of him, with a rattling good time of one hour 16 minutes and 31 seconds.
Now there's an achievement to impress his grandchildren some day -- it certainly impressed the other Radcliffe runners.
Adrian has been in good form recently, working hard in training, racing sensibly, and the Blackpool race was one of those days runners get now and again, where it all comes good. The sea breeze and warm conditions did not affect him and he put in an excellent effort.
Mark Emmett was pleased with his run -- 98th in 1.33.37, to land up 19th over 40, again a good performance in that huge number of runners. More success lay at the flying feet of Jayne Platt, who was third lady over 35 in 1.36.58, 132nd overall and elated with the thought of putting in such a good performance.
In the over 60s category, in-form Tom West put in a good run too, fourth in the category, showing just how many of these really good over-60 runners there are these days. He was 253rd in 1.44.08.
Radcliffe had some newer runners in the race too. Jim Sutcliffe had a go at this rather long race and lasted the course, finishing 435th in 1.55.59. His "other half" Denise was 30th lady over 40, and 594th in 2.07.07.
On the same day, Mark Jackson was having a crack at another big race, the Manchester 10k, where he finished 257th in 46.43. Not a bad time for the running club's leading rugby player!
