A COMMUNITY group's dream will come true tomorrow when a drop in centre opens its doors in Stacksteads.

Stacksteads Riverside Park Group (SRPG) was set up ten years ago to improve the lives to people in the town by improving recreation facilities and to date has raised £200,000.

Tomorrow the latest phase in the group's work will be marked when Janet Anderson MP for Rossendale and Darwen will cut the ribbon to officially open the centre at 11am in front of 50 invited guests.

Members of the public are invited to tour the former shop premises at 316 Newchurch Road from 1pm.

Chairman of SRPG Coun Michael McShea said: "Volunteers have been working very hard cleaning, decorating and purchasing equipment in preparation for the open day."

The centre will offer office accommodation, advice sessions, youth activities, adult education and other activities.

The nursery initiative Sure Start will be based in the centre on one full day a week and pensioners drop in sessions are planned.

The project was funded by the Bacup and Stacksteads Single Regeneration Budget funding which secured nearly £5 million to improve the towns of Bacup and Stacksteads.

Coun McShea said: "We are open to all ideas and we will provide what the community requests if at all possible. The more volunteers we have, the more things we can do."
