WE were the organisers for Christian Aid Week in Radcliffe and wish to express heartfelt thanks to local church-goers and the public for their support.
We raised just short of £3,600 which will be used to provide hope, health and the chance of a decent life to the world's poorest communities, whatever their religion. Christian Aid is there when there is an emergency, but is also there when the work of reconstruction goes on afterwards. And Christian Aid is there to tackle root cause problems, for example, tackling high maternal mortality by training traditional birth attendants, or helping communities to organise their business activities so as to access world markets.
If you did not have an opportunity to contribute to our total, you can still call 08080 006 006 to donate by credit card.
Christian Aid also campaigns to change unjust structures that keep people poor. Many readers will have been involved over the last two years in calling for relief of unpayable international debt. Poor countries struggle to service these debts and so divert money urgently needed for basic education or health care. Unjust international trade rules also deprive poor
communities of billions of pounds each year.
To join the campaign for trade justice please contact us at 14 Chapeltown Road, Radcliffe M26 1YF (tel: 0161-724-5696) for details.
