AM I the only Bury FC supporter to have any concerns about the "Forever Bury" group and its intentions?
When this group was formed with the help of Supporters Direct after the Shakers went into administration some four months ago, its stated intention was to form a supporters trust to oversee a supporters buy-out of Bury Football Club to the tune of around £300,000. Since then all they seem to have arranged is the debacle down at the Castle Leisure Centre, a full six weeks ago now, since which they haven't managed to arrange another launch date.
If everything was in place then to launch their initiative how can it take so long to find another venue?
Meanwhile the Good Ship Bury FC is still floundering in fiscal high seas, yet "Forever Bury" have not managed to come up with a single penny towards saving the club. Do these people ever intend to launch their initiative or is it the case, as I suspect, that this group has no intention of launching a fans initiative and, indeed, never has had ?
It is my belief that "Forever Bury" was formed merely as a smokescreen to prevent other fans or groups from forming their own initiatives. Nev Neville, John Smith and Fred Mason are keen on getting Brian Kennedy, or some other big investor, to come in so that there will be no need to get the fans in the boardroom; they can just carry on where Hugh Eaves left off, as if nothing had happened.
If messrs Neville, Smith and Mason had ever wanted the fans to have a say in the running of the club then they would have done it years ago.
All they had to do was to buy all the shares themselves and then launch a completely new share issue of, say, 20 million shares at £1 each and allow every Bury supporter to buy whatever amount they wanted. This would have raised more than enough not only to save the club and pay off its debts but to have money left to invest in its future.
Unfortunately, this meant they would have lost control of the board and this, I believe, is what this whole saga has been about all along.
