IF anyone wants to sponsor an immigrant/'asylum-seeker' and be responsible for all their needs, I've no argument against that. But, let's be honest, the vast majority of so-called 'asylum-seekers' landing in the UK are nothing more than economic-migrants.
Regarding the comments of Amnesty International supporters about "the valuable contribution of refugees to this country" (Letters, June 19), they reminded me of the reasons given by the slave-traders..."Who would do these jobs if we didn't have slaves?" and "We need them to keep labour costs down." Nothing really changes does it?
These words spring to mind: space, welfare state and bandwagon, multi-nationals' and cheap-labour. It is the phoney refugees who kill compassion.
