REGARDING the flooding on Friday June 14, Coun Bill Taylor said they spent hours on Friday and Saturday assessing the damage and giving out sandbags (LET, June 17).
I live in Lower Darwen and my house was one of nine that had flood damage that night. I never saw anyone from the council.
In fact, nine days after the downpour and the only thing I have seen was a gully motor that came because we reported the five drains between us and the nearby stream were blocked and that if the water came over again we would be flooded more than before.
When the driver got out we showed him the five drains, which are within two or three paces of each other. He said he only had one drain to be done on his list. After telling him it was stupid to do one and leave the others, he started work (He did three of them and then left).
Then on Friday June 21, a road sweeper came and swept the back street which by this time looked like a dried up river bed.
By this time there were three piles of wet carpet on the pavement at the front of the houses. Once again, we phoned the council to tell them that they were there and they had been classed as a health hazard.
The reply was that they would come and remove them. By late on Sunday night, June 23, the three piles were still there -- not a good advert for Coun Taylor or his staff.
We have told officials about this stream before. I wonder what they will do about it this time. The same nothing as they did last time?
